Early Spring Catfishing

Mondocat
Mondocat - Fish big or go home

Early catfishing: the ice has completely melted from most rivers and is beginning to fall through on local lakes. It is time to head out and catch your first catfish of the year. With the water temperature still very cold the prime target will be channel cats.

The carcass’ of winter killed fish litter the bottom of lakes and rivers and is the meal of choice for channel cats this time of year.

Hopefully last year you cached in your freezer (without your wife knowing) a couple freezer bags of dead creek chubs or shad. With these you are ready to go.

Use smaller pieces that you would normally use with lighter weights. Early spring channel cats are finicky. But they have been fasting all winter and are looking for a meal.

So head out to the lake or river, throw out a line and get ready!
